LOCATIONS

Welcome to the vibrant world of Merkado, a food truck that brings a taste of Mexico to the streets of San Francisco. Nestled at 130 Townsend St, this gourmet establishment transforms traditional Mexican flavors with a modern twist. With a menu that spells culinary adventure, Merkado is not your average taco truck; it's a destination for those seeking an exquisite dining experience on the go.

  • Signature Dishes: Each item on the menu is a celebration of bold flavors and fresh ingredients. The Quesadilla De Chicharron stands out, featuring house-made chicharron melted with three types of cheese and nestled between organic blue corn tortillas, served with a zesty avocado tomatillo salsa. It's a dish that embodies the essence of authentic Mexican cuisine.
  • Delectable Botanas and Antojitos: For those wanting a lighter bite, consider the Elote, grilled corn smothered with crema and cotija cheese, or the Guacamole Al Tres, a delightful mix of fresh avocados and spices—a perfect pairing with the house-made tortilla chips. Each bite transports you to sun-drenched afternoons in Mexico.
  • Platos Fuertes That Impress: Merkado's offerings extend to heartier plates like the Carne Asada, a wood-grilled skirt steak marinated in a blend of three chiles that deliver a lovely smoky flavor. The thoughtful preparation using high-quality ingredients, like Niman Ranch ribeyes in dishes such as the Chuletn Marmoleo, reflects the dedication to culinary excellence.

As I explored the diverse menu, I was particularly enchanted by the Torta De Albondigas — a meatball sandwich that is a hearty masterpiece, perfectly balanced with a spicy slaw and flavorful tomato-habanero sauce, all nestled in a buttery lobster roll. It’s a true reflection of Merkado’s ambition to elevate classic street foods into gourmet delights.

Merkado is more than just a food truck; it's an experience. As customers like Zach B. and Rodney H. have remarked, the portions might be smaller, but the quality and taste justify any higher price point. Every dish is crafted with care, making each visit worth it. Whether you’re craving a casual bite or a gourmet outing on wheels, Merkado offers a delightful escape to the heart of Mexico.

There is some truth to the reviews that say Tres Truck's portions are small and prices high. To be fair this is a gourmet food truck - not your corner taco truck by any stretch of the imagination. The Torta de Albondigas (meatball sandwich) is just amazing. It's $9.50 and I think it makes an adequate lunch. The tacos are also delicious and when paired with the Elote (fire grilled corn, cut off the cob, and tossed with ranchero cheese and lime juice) make a solid lunch. I usually spend a little over my usual $10 limit for lunch from a food truck, but the food is so delicious, I never, ever regret it!

I visited the Tres Truck back in July when they were starting up. I thought their menu looked pretty interesting and decided to give it a go. Being super hungry for lunch, I ordered the Bacon-Wrapped Hot Dog to pop my bacon-dog cherry and I also ordered their Torta De Albondigas because it sounded really interesting. Bacon-Wrapped Hot Dog (8.50)- Kobe Beef Hot Dog wrapped in Bacon, Chipotle Mayo, Grilled Onions and Jalapeños, on a Lobster Roll (http://bit.ly/SnyoUg) I thought the hot dog was pretty good. The Lobster Roll gave it a nice buttery texture and who doesn't love Bacon? A little on the pricey side though. $8.50 is a pretty hefty price for a hot dog. But it's got enough substance to justify the price. Torta De Albondigas (9) - Beef & Pork Meatballs, Tomato-Habanero Sauce, spicy Slaw, Queso Fresco, on a Lobster Roll (http://bit.ly/Snydbl) I liked this a lot! Like the hot dog it was a very hearty sandwich in a buttery lobster roll bun. The meatballs were cooked very well and had good flavor. I'd definitely pick this one up again. They also offer different types of tacos, as well as ceviche and elotes. I'll probably try those next time I visit. All in all, it's a pretty solid food truck from people behind Tres. It's pricey, but the food is great and the quality justifies the price.
